Two Austin Restuarants Named To OpenTable’s Hottest Spots

fixeTwo Austin eateries are sizzling, according to a new list of the Top 100 Hot Spot Restaurants in America.

OpenTable combed through more than 5 million user reviews of more than 20,000 restaurants to determine the honorees. The list, which highlights “hip, new restaurants, celebrity chefs and avant-garde restaurateurs” gives props to a fun South Lamar eatery and a new downtown favorite.

Bryce Gilmore’s buzzy Odd Duck claims a well-deserved spot on the list. The brick-and-mortar outpost of Gilmore’s original food truck concept satisfies diners with creative dishes like sunchoke tater tots and goat lasagna.

The more surprising Austin hot spot on the list is Fixe, which opened in December 2014. Executive Chef James Robert shows his Southern roots with classic dishes like shrimp and grits, fried chicken and deviled eggs.

Five other Texas hot spots land on the list: Uchi in Houston, Whiskey Cake in San Antonio, Kona Grill in El Paso, HG Sply Co. in Dallas and Cork & Pig Tavern #2 in Odessa.
